Services

The Register of Deeds office records, files, indexes and maintains documents authorized by law based on the Wisconsin Statutes. All real estate documents that affect ownership of property, easements, mortgages, satisfactions, land contracts, name changes, power of attorney, federal tax liens, plats and certified survey maps are recorded in this office.



Vital Records Information:

Register of Deeds Office also files Vital Records which include birth, death, and marriage records along with military discharges.

If you were born or married in the State of Wisconsin, you can obtain your birth or marriage certificate in any county in Wisconsin.

Statewide issuance of Death Certificates is available from September 1, 2013 to present. Deaths prior to September 1, 2013 need to be requested from the county where the death occurred. 

Forms:

Fees for Vital records are as follows: 

$20.00 for the first copy (of each record) 

$3.00 for each additional copy of the same record purchased at that time.

We accept cash, check, or money order as form of payment.




Plat Books:

The 2021 Plat Books are available for $35.00.  We also have 2018 Plat Books available for $25.00. 

Please note that prices do not include postage for shipping. The shipping fee is $5.00 per book. If ordering online, be sure to include the shipping fee on your order and payment.

Duties


 

Public Information

The Register of Deeds office cannot change deeds or draft deeds.  A deed is a legal document. Legal documents such as warranty deeds, quit claim deeds, etc, that convey title from one property owner to a new owner, or change names on a deed are usually drafted by attorneys or title companies.  If you need assistance drafting or interpreting legal documents, please contact a Real Estate Attorney, Title Company, or the State Bar of Wisconsin Lawyer Referral Service. Register of Deeds Office is unable to provide legal advice.  

The Register of Deeds office does not provide services for real estate searches. 

Self Addressed Stamp Envelopes are required for the return of any documents, including recorded and certified documents.
